Awarded Architects for Papeteries Du Souche renovation project

Winning architects for Papeteries Du Souche renovation project

3 big wig

We are proud to announce that our team has been selected as the main architects for the planning and rehabilitation of Papeteries Du Souche in France. The winning team includes Albert Abut Architecture (AAA), Heinrich Von Sponeck Architects (HVS), and D&P Associates (D8P). The standing three were finalized from a very talented shortlist of A/E teams that had advanced through the final round, which consists of presentation and interview.

The finalists were curated based on our record of aesthetics, adherence to the client wishes, proven and projected building performance and concept development. This will be a chance to prove our capabilities as architects and creatives, while attracting attention to our work and our firms. Thus, we are not settling for anything less than ideal for the project.

About the project

Papeteries Du Souche is a former subsidiary of ADAPACK Group. The liquidation of the paper mill occurred in 2013, which dealt a blow to the local economic activities in ANOULD, France. In turn, this gave way to a vast industrial wasteland, a hollowness that begs for its core.

As a  result, the Agglomeration Community of de Saint- Dié-des-Vosges requested the EPFL to restructure and renovate the area, as the degradation has been damaging the image of the sector and its overall scenery.

Initially, EPFL, as part of its policy on the treatment of degraded areas, piloted an environmental study. It includes historical study, site study, and management plan followed with a pre-development study. The studies allowed them to consider solutions to help the old industrial area regain its former glory.

This site occupies an area of about 20 ha and is crossed by the river Meurthe. These are very heterogeneous premises of different eras, some of which have specific characteristics related to the activities they are assigned to (especially for placing paper manufacturing equipments). The site, on the edge of the RD415, is wholly visible from this very busy axis that leads to Gérardmer, the Crêtes des Vosges and Alsace.

D&P Associates – Albert Abut Architecture – Heinrich Von Sponeck Architects plan to revive the area also include preserving its history, culture and physical environment.
